Weekly Evaluation, Week Two.

How do you understand the rationale for the Drawing Programme?

I undertand that over last week and this week we will be undergoing several experimental exercises with our tutor to broaden and push our current skill set and challenge our way of thinking. I also understand that as explained to us, life drawing will continue as an evening class which I am keen to sign up for!

What are your feelings about drawing?

Completely changed from what they were! I had such a negative outlook on it before, as I found it difficult to look past the fact that my drawings compared to everyone else were not nearly life like or accurate at all. My biggest problem was comparison to other in my class at sixth form, however having a fresh group of people has really benefitted me as I can now see how broad a range of responses and styles there are. I was also scared before to have my own style because I felt very pressured to try and conform to the 'accurate' style, however now I feel a lot happier to branch out and experiment.

How have you made use of your studio time?

I have been working in the 3D studio this week, which has been an inspiring space to work in and so have been working in there when I can. I haven't been back in my own un-timetabled time, however when I have been in there I have been trying to make the most out of the time I have and work amongst others during the day,

Which skills introduced last week have been useful this week?

  • drawing without a pen or pencil

  • mark making (expansion of techniques)

  • responding to single words (good for thought processes)

How have the artist references you have found helped you think about new approaches to your work?

I have been inspired by all of the new artists, and have found that in particular I am inspired by their methods and processes they use to create their artwork itself. I usually have a very regimented method of production, so think it would be interesting and beneficial to branch out into a different way of working to see what it produces and how it compares to the norm.

How have the practical and material elements of the work gone? have you kept notes?

I have been keeping a record of what we have been doing under date headings which has been very beneficial for referring back to and evaluation write ups.

What could you do better next week?

Ensure that I am following the evaluation question answers I have written to influence and improve my work next week.
