Week Five - Weekly Evaluation

Have you changed where you see yourself currently in terms of art/design/media? If so, why?

Yes, even after a week doing the media project, I like the style and layout of the project so much more as it is a lot more freeing and exploratory than design. I also really liked working with all the different cameras and equipment in the photography studio. I think wit design as well, I wasn't really enjoying the physical building using materials on the first day, however I did like the visual element of being able to create my own design sheets as I am a very visual worker and bounce off of my own ideas better when I can see my thoughts in the form of images and experiments in my head conveyed onto the paper. However in media I have been a lot more focused on using technology, and keeping a record of my work on a blog instead of physically in a file/sketchbook.

Which skills developed in previous weeks have been useful this week?

I have learnt to extend out my ideas more and tried to work on branching out an idea further than what I first think it to be. For example with my polaroid images I have been taking, I have changed what I want to convey through them, and what I want to evoke out of the viewer, and this in turn has opened up several areas for experimentation and exploration, meaning that my final outcome will be different.

How have new artist references been useful in helping you think about new approaches to your project?

As of yet, I haven't really done any artist research which i think is possibly an area of hinderance at the moment as I have been working solely from ideas in my head and advice from tutors/peers. I think once over the weekend I do some more research into photography and how it is used as a medium to convey certain emotions and concepts, it will be a lot broader.

How have the practical and material elements of the work gone - how well have you kept notes?

My notes this week have been a little more all over the place, which is interesting as with the design project I was very organised and up to date with my comments and thoughts from each day. I think this lack of physical writing is mainly down to the fact I have been working more digitally based this week, with most of my work and reflections going directly onto my blog.

What could you do better next week?

I think research is a definite area for improvement, and also maybe try to document more of my creative process through the day so that i can analyse and write about it on my blog.
