Sound Clip Experiments - https://soundcloud.com/user-299752011/sets/initial-experimentation
On this SoundCloud playlist is a selection of audio tracks I created by experimenting with layering of sounds, disjointing the sentences and playing around with pauses, emotions conveyed through speech, and soundscapes. I was interested in how the different tracks I compiled could be edited and combined to give off different feelings, making them appropriate in different artistic contexts. For example, one of the tracks has an underlying soundscape from a holiday in Cuba, combined with the harsher sound of a telephone call, giving off and almost 'documentary' type feel for the piece. In the end, I found the most effective use of sound was layering the same track over itself to give the track a different meaning and feel to itself originally. This can be hear in the track 'internal conversations' which I edited and later named as it sounded like one person having a conversation with themselves. Although this particular track has a few comical moments, I think taking the idea forward is a good starting point for a more serious tone of exploration into phone recordings and perhaps voicemails.
However, adding another level to this sound piece, I have thought in the past about ways to add music into the recordings without it being too obviously designed as a 'musical' work of art. I think adding music into this particular soundclip would be very interesting, as it could reduce the slightly comedic value, and translate it instead into nostalgia. I know from personal experience through watching movies and listening to music, and research done into emotions attached with music and art, that when comedy is combined together with 'sad' or 'reminiscent/emotional' music, it changed the whole tone down to a very sentimental and wistful feel. This would be interesting to add into my artwork, as the theory of emotion attached to music interests me massively; I am fascinated by the power music has over us and its ability to control the emotions connected with not only visual art such as movies or theatre, but ourselves in the everyday 'here and now'.

Friday Sound Experiments Outcomes - https://soundcloud.com/user-299752011/chopin-synth-uncle-paul
The outcome from today came together from several different directions. Although it remains unfinished, after a days studio work I produced a sample of the kind of audio I want to combine, however I find the Friday 'Outcome' to be hugely successful. I think this was down to much of my reflection early on in the day when I discovered a way to incorporate music into my experiments.
