Studio Day Reflection

I had an incredibly productive day today, in which not only did I plan out and organise the rest of my week leading up to the final deadline, but also did some practical and sketchbook work I wanted to achieve. I found that working in the studio was a little too hectic however, as there were a lot of people with a lot of work and therefore not that much space. This created quite an intense claustrophobic atmosphere which I feel had a negative effect on my work production, so I left halfway through the afternoon to continue my work in the studio at home.

I continued the work I had been completing with the puzzle piece experimentation, and documented a lot of the vital discoveries for my final piece in my sketchbook. This included considerations such as size of puzzle pieces, size of final piece and materials used to create the final piece being achieved and thought about. I decided to use the bigger puzzle piece stencil for my final piece, as the photos i had printed in the uni print shop today although A4 are still quite big, so the facial features have naturally been enlarged too.

One of the problems I had to overcome was how to cut out the jigsaw puzzle pieces, as using a plain straight craft knife would have been extremely time consuming (but not impossible) due to the curves and intricate shapes a puzzle piece possesses. However, I came across a craft knife that had a much smaller blade attached to a 360* rollable ball making for easy manoeuvres into curves and edges. This revolutionised the way I cut my puzzle pieces making the whole process extremely efficient.

I have also been doing a lot of smaller experiments that although don't directly form a part of my final piece, contribute to the broader stretch of my work in the short time I have left, and allow me explore every possible creative outcome, ensuring I have answered the questions that could alter how I present my final piece.
